This seminar explores the need to develop entrepreneurial organisations and how this can be achieved by managers performing as leaders rather than managers. It will offer a range of strategies that can be actioned to enable the development of an entrepreneurial culture within firms.  It will be relevant to consultants who work with organisations of all sizes and to the managers of these organisations.

The seminar will begin by exploring our understanding of entrepreneurial organisations and move on to the question of leadership, as outlined below:

19:00 – 19:50     General Discussion Relating to Scenarios Offered by Attendees

19:50 – 20:00     Concluding Remarks

The evening will allow substantial time for discussion to enable participants discuss particular scenarios they may envision and how these can be addressed.

Both presenters are highly experienced in the topic of entrepreneurial leadership.

Orlaith Carmody is author of the bestselling book 'Perform As A Leader' and MD of Mediatraining.ie which specialises in communications training and leadership development. She is an active commentator on radio and TV and a regular keynote speaker on subjects such as doing business in today’s ever changing environment, women’s participation at board level, entrepreneurship, leadership development, and diversity and inclusion.  Following a career as a journalist with RTÉ, Orlaith became a serial entrepreneur and is a director of SMEs in media, recruitment, production and education. She served on the board of RTÉ 2010 to 2015.  She is a founder member of the Irish Chapter of EO, the Entrepreneurs’ Organisation, and was President 2014/15.

Tom Cooney is Professor in Entrepreneurship at the Dublin Institute of Technology, Academic Director of the DIT Institute for Minority Entrepreneurship and Adjunct Professor at the University of Turku (Finland). He is a former President of the International Council for Small Business (2012-13) and of the European Council for Small Business (2009-11), and was Chair of the ICSB 2014 World Entrepreneurship Conference. He was a member of the Department of Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation ‘Entrepreneurship Forum‘ (2013-14) and is a policy advisor to the Irish Government, European Commission, OECD and other international organisations. He was a founding Director of Startup Ireland and works in various capacities with businesses and not-for-profit enterprises. He has researched and published widely on the topic of entrepreneurship.

The seminar is kindly hosted by Dublin Institute of Technology.
