The Institute of Management Consultants and Advisers (IMCA) was formed on 1st March 2006 following a merger of the memberships of the Institute of Management Consultants in Ireland (IMCI) and the Republic of Ireland Branch of the Institute of Business Advisers (IBA).
The IMCI was originally set up in Ireland in the late 1960s as a branch of the UK-based Institute of Management Consultants to provide a forum for the advancement of management consulting as an identifiable profession. Having experienced strong growth in subsequent decades, the IMCI was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in 1981 and separated from the UK IMC to become an autonomous Institute for the profession in Ireland on 1st January 1995.
The IBA was set up in Ireland in 1998 to service the needs of the Business Advisory Community, public and private. It operated as a Regional branch of the IBA in the UK and cooperated closely with the branch in Northern Ireland.
